About Byron James Atterton
Byron James Atterton is a composer and pianist who earned dual BAs in Music and Political Science from the University of California, Irvine in June 2026. At UCI he studied piano with Professor Nina Scolnik and developed a strong focus on composition, which he has continued to pursue through professional training and collaborative projects.
In August 2024 he was selected for the Screen Music Program in Pavia, Italy, studying with composers associated with major Netflix productions including The Queen’s Gambit, One Piece, and The Witcher. That same summer he made his international performing debut at the Emmanuel Levinas Centre in Kaunas, Lithuania. Under the guidance of Professor Geoffrey Pope he composed original music for a live-to-picture performance of excerpts from the 1922 silent film Nosferatu, performed by the UCI Symphony in their 2025 Fall Express Concert. He also served as the first music intern at AV Squad in Los Angeles during summer 2025, writing original scores and cues for film trailers.
Atterton has taught piano at Yamaha Music Center (2024–2026) and currently teaches at Leading Note Studios. He continues to develop a portfolio oriented toward film, concert, and media composition.
