What is white noise

White noise is referred to as stationary noise, i.e. noise with constant power, spectral density and autocorrelation, whose spectral components are evenly distributed over the entire frequency range from 20 to 20,000 Hz.

White noise sound for sleeping

White noise sound is harmless to children and adults. Since white noise contains no information, it does not overload perceptual channels. The monotony of white noise helps to relax, fall asleep faster, concentrate, and distract from extraneous noise. A study also found that white noise even increases attention and thinking creativity.

There are several types of white noise that are particularly good for sleep:

– Neutral sounds, similar to a monotone noise, like when you turn on the TV or the radio on an empty channel.
– Nature sounds – the sound of a waterfall, ocean white noise, rustling leaves, wind, etc.
– The sounds of the heartbeat and the sound of blood in the vessels heard by the child in the womb.

The volume of white noise to fall asleep should not exceed 50 dB.

White noise is also good for learning

The study found that white noise at a volume of 65 dB improved performance on only one test – that of working memory. But it also increased stress, as evidenced by an increase in skin conductance. White noise at a volume of 45 dB, on the other hand, improved sustained attention and creativity without increasing stress.
